"Lion Walking Stick - Bronze & Redwood"
|
This lion head was individually sculpted slab-build clay construction techniques. A rubber mold was made of it and the wax piece was textured and fine-tuned. Then the "Lost Wax Method" used to produce the bronze. After the bronze cooled, the sculpture was chased, fettled, and a patina applied. Finally, the sculpture was waxed and buffed. The walking stick itself was carved from redwood. PLEASE NOTE: This is a show piece only and is not meant for actual use.

"Polar Bear Paper Weight - Ceramic (Raku)"

This one-of-a-kind sculpture was individually hand-made from a solid lump of clay. A "raku" luster glaze was brushed on and the piece was fired in a "raku" kiln. The sculpture was then scrubbed.

"Lion Paper Weight - Ceramic (Horsehair Raku)"

This one-of-a-kind sculpture was individually hand-made from a solid lump of clay. Using the special firing technique known as "raku", real horsehair was dropped onto the sculpture. As the fire consumes the hair, it twists and turns, producing an embedded one-of-a-kind pattern. After being scrubbed, the sculpture was waxed and buffed.

This one-of-a-kind sculpture was individually hand-made from a solid lump of clay. The handcrafted piece was then fired in a "saggar" pot within a "raku" kiln. The pot was layered with various materials including: saw dust, vermiculite, salt, and copper carbonate, then covered tightly. The kiln was fired. After cooling, the sculptures were scrubbed, waxed and buffed. The various materials react differently to the heat creating different colors and patterns making each sculpture unique.
